Im 21 years old and have had a beard since I was 19. Everyone around me thinks im too young to have one but i see it as a pinnacle of manliness.
Many great men in history have had a beard. As a muslim, the beard in Islam is essential as many great prophets had one i.e Jesus, Moses, Abraham and (for the muslim) Muhammad (peace be on them all) ...

At 63 my facial hair has finally reached a color and texture suitable for a good looking beard. In years past I have grown it in the winter months and shaved it off for the summer months. No longer however. It’s looking to good. I keep it trimmed to my hair length to keep it even and neat. I like it, my wife likes it and that’s all that matters. I’ve been told my beard makes me look ... See all content

Had a beard since I was 16, for all but a couple years. Never trust the barber with your pride and joy unless you are very sure of his competence and your absolute ability to communicate your desires. Made that mistake once, and had to trim it all over down to about 1/4″ and start over. The beard trimmer is a great invention – barber scissors and a comb took forever.

@Jimmy,
Unfortunately it is a common myth that trimming the beard makes it grow faster and thicker. I’m not sure where such reverse logic originated, but we bearded men are trying our best to stop the nonsense. The only magic ingredient to beard growing is patience. No patience, no beard.

I was always told that shaving made your hair grow back faster and thicker and therefore to grow a beard quick ‘n thick, you had to constantly trim it.

Ha, I just wrote a blog about this very topic – how to grow a beard. Isn’t the fundamental idea behind growing a beard no more complicated than to stop shaving. I am a firm believer that you should let your beard grow however you want.

I think we are forgetting one of the most manly and fantastic individuals who ever lived had a beard. That’s right. Abraham Lincoln.
Think about it this way, Lincoln had been a chronic failure in many fields, business, law, politics,having lost races for the senate and vice presidency. But an obscure letter from a woman encouraged Lincoln to grow a bear and he would surely garner more

I agree entirely – my beard and moustache combo are very popular with my friends. It’s well tended, frequently washed and displayed with great care…

I’ve had my beard since I moved back to Maine from Boston in October 2003. All of the men I worked with at the time had beards and my father and uncles all have, or often do, sport beards or mustaches. I was also a young looking 27 year old working with Vietnam veterans so I decided to try the beard to help me look more mature. I think it worked! I currently work in higher education where beards ... See all content

Well, I shaved mine. I could not seem to find a method for dealing with the painful bumps that come up under the beard. Tried alcohol, witch hazel, shampoos….still no help. I even tried just digging them out thinking it was maybe an ingrown hair.
I suppose they are just part of the price of having a beard. I will try again next winter, maybe as I had lots of positive response on the
