The health care bill recently unveiled by Speaker Nancy Pelosi is over 1,900 pages for a reason. It is much easier to dispense goodies to favored interest groups if they are surrounded by a lot of legislative legalese. How about the Federal or State Government paying the plaintiff's attorney a stipend if they lose? Might as well have the lawyers under government control like everybody else.

Instead of 1/3 of the settlement how about having something like:
*The lower of $150 per hour, or 1/3 of the settlement?
*The advertised per hour rate. (assuming the rate is $150 per hour).
Do you think that would be more fair? In some cases, 1/3 of the settlement could be usurious.
