You are right, but that is the point. Good politicians would do or support these activities, have done so in the past, and need to do so again in the future.

And, of course, as authors like David Cay Johnson have shown (in his book Free Lunch), the private market ain’t always so private. An awful lot of private activity is actually government-subsidized. So, one way or the other, government is involved in economic activity. I would rather that involvement be transparent and in accord with democratic direction.
