How Much Editing or Proofreading Do You Do Before You Hit Publish?

Just a quick thought and question: How much do you proofread or edit before you hit that “publish” button for your blog posts?
I’m sure the Editor of the above newspaper wasn’t too happy, btw.

For me, I don't proofread much if at all. I tend to check that as I go. If I do catch something I just change it on the fly. I do a lot of thinking about my posts beforehand so I think it helps, but I'm sure I've made some silly mistake that I still haven't caught…

You're asking me a WordPress question? This is a red-letter day!
I hacked it from this guidance on WPBeginner. Look at his second hack.

Oops, note to self, "Don't post comments from the iPhone." It makes it hard to proofread. Make that, "it's usually around 3am." I guess I need more practice on proofreading

3-6 times. But each time I'm adding more content as well.
Most times I write my posts the day before they're actually published. So if the idea expands in my head, I'll have more time to edit/enhance the post.
But some are made more 'on the fly'.

I usually proofread the post about 3-5 times before publishing, but it usually around 3am. I proofread again in the morning before I tweet about the post.

I'm almost the opposite. I tend to write and then, as I revise, end up removing content and scaling back the length of the article a bit. These comments have been cool - seeing how others construct their stuff is interesting.

The funny thing about your comment is that sometimes I wish I could just hit publish rather than read over it so many times.

I usually read it 1-2 times sometimes 3.
I get pretty impatient and annoyed with reading my own stuff (I always think it can be better). I was never good with grammar in high school and so I break a lot of the rules. The biggest help for me was submitting it to a proof-reader first and then getting it back. That helped a ton and I learned a lot and can definitely tell that I am learning more

I am the same way. I read in preview mode but then when I see something I need to fix I go back to the editor make my changes and then I catch myself just reading from there and then getting upset because I hate reading from that thing.

wow, I wish I had that much patience. I get tired of reading what I write and after the second time I just kind of say "whatever"

I read about five times, and I only edit in Preview mode. That little Wordpress box is too constricting!

I'll read thru two or three times and always find errors. And then once I hit that publish button I read again...only to find even more errors. Proof-reading/correction seems to be an on-going task for me.

I generally read whatever I am going to post 2-3 times in editing mode. Then I post it in preview mode so it looks differently and I re-read the whole thing over again as a last run through. Seems to work well enough though inevitably I miss things from time to time like everyone else.

I never write a post directly in Wordpress. I do most of the writing in MSWord (I know, I'm a PC, Don't hate me!) Then I copy and paste into Wordpress. This is when the real editing starts. I go over and look for mistakes that Word missed or that may not have been obvious before. I "preview" the post on my blog. (Mike, you're right. It does look different in live context.) ... I re-read about five times, but I make changes every time. That, of course, presents the opportunity to introduce new errors. I find that people are more forgiving on the Web. Most don’t comment if they see a problem. Some due. If I catch something, I change it in real time.
Also, I have programmed a ten-minute delay into my RSS feed, so that I can re-read my post on my blog before

'Tis such an individual thing; one of your siblings even edits tm's for grammar....For a blog I'd just check once to be sure it said what I intended and didn't out any words or contain any obveeous misspellings. :)

I don't normally do much of it and then late at night have a panic moment about what i've posted so log back into check. I'm not very good at proofreading. Got back one of college essays this week- all the red ink made me cringe.

I'd say I proof a post at least five times (sometimes as many as 10) before hitting publish. I'm kinda compulsive like that.
