This is the major issue, Chris - the money is there but not being used. WE know it's there - WE put it there. Yet as you say, it's the companies working in defense that are benefiting - not the people that need it. It's no coincidence that the Bush administration was under review for the amount of questionable contracts it gave to private companies working to "rebuild" Iraq - seems to be a very slow process...
I recall seeing that picture 20 years ago - I was just a teenager and the first Live Aid in the UK was about to take place. It broke my heart - why haven't the lessons been learned?

I couldn't agree more, the money wasted on lining the pockets of major corporations in the name of defense has only gotten us into the financial mess even deeper.

There was outrage then, there is outrage now, what there hasn't been is a concerted effort by those with capital to do anything about solving these problems.
