All the yelling and screaming was all that and nothing more- " oh no, we can't allow them to come here"..."Nobody wants them...All them there evil terrorists!!!!"

Now that it is clear that there is plenty of space, plenty of potential jobs, plenty of potential income...the reports are "bring them to Illinois - potential 3000 jobs"..."Lots of prisons can hold them"

What motivates the news is sensationalism and not truth - what motivates neocons is conning with fear to usurp power

What motivates politicians is money.

It will still work out to the overly loud 1 in 5 promoting the "NO we can't" chant.

And those with a sense of reality an agreement that "yes we can" - there is nothing to fear other than those who would control us with fear.

The facts remain that there were over 750 detainees in Gitmo - all tortured and abused. BUSH released or transferred over 500 after trying to fix the intel to justify his War on Iraq through torture; the remaining 240+? 40 have been found to be cleared of any possible charges, concerns or potential problems but the CIA and US Military destroyed their lives, their bodies and tried to destroy their souls

Approximately 16-20 are potentially guilty of which the first group is being sent to trial with a more than certain chance of full conviction and probable death sentence while they sit in NYC awaiting a "fair trial from a jury comprised of their peers".

The rest sit in limbo.

Can't possibly release them - so says the political hacks that don't know their ass from a hole in the ground - "they might turn their backs on us and become terrorists after all". That could be possible with all the hate we certainly made certain they feel after years of abuse and torture

Can't possibly let them have a free say in their constitutional rights (which they all have - read the constitution...it says nothing about citizens, but any person; and nothing about the 50 states being the only US soil, the law includes all territories, leased land-including GITMO at $5000 a year-, embassy buildings and lands, office buildings, military bases, etc)

Hell - they might bring suit against perpetrators of the abuse and that means trying the entire US government between 2001 and 2009 - and soon enough, the entire nation since we are complicit as we refuse to hold those accountable for their crimes.

So the detainees (no they are not unlawful enemy combatants - most were not the enemy nor were most of them even in combat) and their orange jumpsuit cousins in Bagram and other prisons just continue to sit and continue to be abused and tortured with their freedom removed, no family, no friends, no home, no life....

And they sit while politicians bicker about whether or not they are "too dangerous" or not dangerous enough to be used to secure government funds to line the pockets of politicians ... See all content Hide content

As someone who lives a stones throw away, I'm not terribly opposed. So long as this place doesn't become the next GB.
