Why did I never read about Major Somnath in my schooling? Is it because he was saving Kashmir? After all the sacrifices of many like Major and his company, we are seeing divisive tones in Kashmir? Will we ever get back Kashmir? What a pity! Somebody in some comments section in Offstumped used to call India as an wretched and ungrateful country. Are we really ungrateful?

Thanks to Shantanu

Shantanu,

Sincere thanks for this series.

BTW, when we were kids, Doordarshan started a series on PVC winners. I remember a couple of episodes of them and can name a couple of winners.

Major Somnath Sharma, I owe my life to your selfless fight. While reading this I visualized the scene and remembered one more martyr from Chatrapati Shivaji’s army. Bajiprabhu Deshpade. He fought pawankhind until he heard the canon shots from Vishalgad.

Jai Hind!
