This is a long overdue discussion here on ShopTalk: vibrating mascaras. There’s Lancôme’s Oscillation (right), Estée Lauder’s TurboLash (left), Prescriptives MotorEyes, Maybelline’s Pulse Perfection (center), and even a rotating contraption called Spin Lash. Are they gimmicks? Catchy tools employed by marketing departments at cosmetic headquarters everywhere? Follow the jump to get my humble opinion. (And find out what we’re giving away.)

In short, no. I don’t think these are gimmicks ...

I was talked into purchasing the Oscillation when it first came out. I only used it a few times because from the very first use it was terribly flaky. I’m just not a fan of having black spots all over my cheeks.

$30 = the price of that lesson.

Wow vibrating mascara! sounds like fun… im not much of the poke my eye out type however i tend to have the mascara splatter problem. it usually ends up all over my cheek and my nose after an anxious swing of the wand.. this wasn’t a problem with the vibrating brush? i know when my dior show tube is low i end up in a frenzy until i can get my next bottle, did any of these vibrators get you ... @ Kendall

I don’t think shaky hands would be a problem, honestly. The vibration is so minor. I would say if you have a mascara you already love, stick with it and skip the $30 price tag. If you’re on the hunt, though, and have tried a handful of mascaras that haven’t given you the look you want, this is definitely worth a try.

I would be hesitant to try. I don’t know how well this would work out with my already shaky hands! Could you tell a big difference between the $30+ ones and the $12? Any advantage to splurging here?

Wondering what vibrating mascaras are really like? If our review isn't enough, we're giving some away. http://tinyurl.com/ygddh5j

I really don’t think you’ll stab yourself in the eye. I wondered about that, too, but you really just hold and use it like a regular mascara. I don’t think it feels any different. (Except for the vibration part, of course.)

I’ve been wanting to try one of these, but have this fear of stabbing myself in the eye. Any different to hold/use than a normal mascara?
