Weird Myths in Business

Myths, legends, and lore – all part of great fiction, but could they also be shaping our ideas about business?

Told over and over again business myths will be regarded as fact, without ever knowing their true origin.

Take for example the old adage that “leadership can only come from the top”. Or “there is no room for failure”. 

How about “my title reflects my credibility”, or that “the truth is dangerous”.

George,

I see it as having a “management” mindset…that all aspects of the business need to be managed, including people, ideas, processes, etc. When in reality business needs very little management, it more often needs leadership which can come from any level of the organization (you just hope the top brass are good leaders too!).

Matt,

Great set of myths. I think they can all be grouped into the category of how NOT to lead. Many of these fall into poor leadership practices. Good leadership training will expose these myths for the fallacies they are.
