I reckon Law Abiding Citizen will be there next week.. was all set to go see it at my local (Aust) cinema this weekend and the blasted release date is pushed back to January 2010.
If it’s good, I may go see it with friends on big screen when it is released but be buggered if I’m waiting that long.

Pelham was well worth my money to see in theaters. It's all been done before, but they still managed to make it unpredictable and very entertaining. I'd buy the damn DVD.
The rest of those movies, however, are meh.

I saw HP and it’s definitely worthy, not like the first shitty movie they made, this one gives you a more mature perspective, it’s not like the freaking tree that liked to catch cars and so.
Star trek was good, they really revive the series by creating again, a more mature perspective, not concerned about what technology they should use and all that trekie shit, mature human behavior

That's pretty unlikely. Some of the biggest geeks (and subsequently the biggest movie and software pirates) I know went to see it in theaters. Some of them, myself included, saw it multiple times and in IMAX.
I'd say it's a safe bet that most people downloading it now have already seen it and just want to watch at home for free now.

I'd agree. Vote with your wallets. It lets them know what we want. And if they make a shitty movie vying for the lowest common denominators in society, pirate it or don't watch it for all I care. I'm just tired of sorting through all the shitty movies online yet to find myself wasting my time for the few and far between gems. And by online, I mean legitimate online movies, Hulu, Netflix, etc.

Kind of works out well in a way. Netflix's selection might be bad, but there's some really amazing films in their instant view which I'd never have seen otherwise. In turn, that's let me keep track of the people who made them and let me put actual money their way.

Yeah I've come to realize that 2 hours of my time and $12 out of my wallet means the movie better not be mediocre or anything less else I'm going to be pissed. It's just a good idea in general to read the reviews, as much as people always voice their disagreement with film critics. Agreed. For most of my life I'd see something if the label on it was good enough. I think a lot of us are like that. Transformers changed that. I heard how bad the second one was and realized something had to change or that kind of thing would continue, and even get worse.

It is NOT great in technical aspects. Shot on video, it looks like ass. Probably for that reason, there's nothing wider than a medium shot in the whole movie. It's a claustrophobic bore. 1920s Chicago? Who'd know? There's not a single scenic shot in the whole thing, because the resolution is so shitty that they couldn't risk having anyone scrutinizing distant details.

Wow, dude, talk about projecting. Nowhere did I say that video is bad. This movie was shot on the Sony F23 and not well. It looks bad from top to bottom, with visible noise patterns where the gain was boosted in dark scenes. Then there were the usual pink halos on lights, but worse than they appeared in Collateral.
4K projectors can get the job done acceptably in theaters, but they need decent

Video doesn't have to look terrible.
What kind of video was it shot on? It seems pretty incredulous that they'd shoot a major motion picture in anything less than high-definition (which can certainly look very good).
Given the digital projection and distribution of modern movies, it's not really fair of accurate to simply dismiss "video" in general as low quality garbage

It had its moments. The movie is one of those that's great in every technical aspect (I.E. great acting, great direction, etc) but it's not one that keeps you glued to the seat. I'm sure the Academy jizzed their pants over it, but the general public won't give two shits about it.

yea but im not surprised at all. every time on pirate bay where i would say "ehh, i dont know what to get, ill check the top movies" it ways always this stuff. recent mainstream big budget blockbusters. they cater to the lowest common denominator. or maybe its movies you would never see in theaters, but if you can for free, you will. they arent good movies, just available ones.
