I am always perplexed that those who are so vehemently against abortion seem to often turn a blind eye to children and their mothers who are living with poverty, domestic violence, broken families + a failed education system; through no fault or their own. Then they go on to be their own person and live an average of 65 years (WORLD WIDE, includes 3rd world countries). When I was in 8th grade a teacher let us listen to the sound of babies being aborted. They had to enhance it b/c otherwise it was so high pitched that it couldn’t be heard by the human ear. MYOB…I know what it is…I have 6 children. I onced asked the ultrasound tech what was the worse thing to fine. She said when the child has no brain because there is no chance for the child to live. My last twopregnancies, I was very afraid that would happen. My husband and I talked about it…what would we do. Would we kill our child (even though the baby does not have a BRAIN, he would still be child) or would I let the child be born, love him…even if it is for a few minutes. I would treat my child with dignity…not trash. THAT is my point. Maybe a child with anencephaly would not feel the pain of an abortion..but a woman has carried her child for 5 months. She has felt him inside of her…has grown to love him! And you think it is easier to just kill the kid without the brain and start over. Either way is going to be hard…abortion or birth…BUT in the long span of our lives…I can guarantee you that the women that carries the child to birth, and holds him and loves him, and lets him die in her arms will NEVER regret that decision. The woman that aborts the child, will alswya wonder if she did the right thing.

AB, I will go back and read your original post. But, I do know someone that was raped. She kept her child. She gave that child up for adoption. She did not bond with him…it was like he did not exist in her mind. It was hard to carry that baby. Oddly enough, it was hard to give him up for adoption too. But, she knew that for her, that was the best thing. We were able to keep up with him (we knew the family that adopted him) He is around 20 now. Last time I saw him he was 12. Such a cute boy. I bet that he is happy that she chose to let him live even though it ruined her senior year in highschool. Even though it was hard for her…she still gave him life. That is my point. The decision is hard…but the child did not do anything wrong…and even in rape…that child is still your child.I am not trying to put guilt on you…what is done is done. Once there was a young girl who was a highly sought after babysitter in a small community. One single mother of a pretty little 5 year old girl named Shauntelle hired the young girl to babysit for her all summer. The young girl, let’s call her Eve, took wonderful care of the little girl.

I am very sorry for you, and I cannot imagine what a terrible experience you must have gone through. As I’ve stated earlier, rape and incest are horrible crimes and those responsible should be punished harshly. I also understand your mental condition, but not to belittle your experience in any way, the majority of women have no problem carrying a child resulting from rape or incest . Half of the child’s DNA comes from the mother anyway.

What if a parent feels like her children are parasites and are draining her resources and time (which they probably are)? Does that give her the right to kill them? Of course not.

All I can say about children with anencephaly is that (A) Regardless of intelligence or awareness the baby is still a human person and entitled to the same rights. (B) Most physicians agree that killing the baby will cause more harm to the mother than giving birth to a child who will only live a few hours.

I mention Palin because she is a perfect example of the “do as I say, not as I do” mentality of the conservative right. I am sure that she is against teaching the “birds and the bees” to kids in school if it doesn’t prominently feature abstinence. That worked really great for her and her kin, didn’t it?

That aside, your mother didn’t really have a choice, did she? She could have had a back alley job but that was risky legally and medically. Women now do have choices and they should be the ones to make them, not anyone else. No one is forcing you or anyone else to have an abortion so why do you feel it necessary to dictate to someone else what she can or cannot do?

Why a woman chooses to abort is a private matter and many factors may enter into the picture. She could have been raped or discovered that her birth control of choice did not or may not have worked (things break and sometimes you forget your pill). In this case a “morning after pill” is a possible solution. No one is sucking or pulling anything apart in this case but conservative Christians still object to this procedure as well.

What if a mother discovers that she is carrying a child with anencephaly (no brain)? This child’s lifespan can be measured in days and usually dies within hours of birth. Why would you force a woman to carry a child like this to term? Why should she be tortured with the thought that what should have been a joyful event is doomed to tragedy? Abortion is a compassionate option here and federal dollars should help pay for it.

Another possible case is the discovery that the mother has been diagnosed with cancer and needs immediate chemotherapy that will damage the fetus. Is she supposed to forgo treatment that could save her life and take her chances? Is she supposed to undergo chemo anyway and damage the fetus? Would your world even allow her to even make that choice?

The problem that I have with conservatives is that they tend to treat complex issues in terms of black and white while reality is various shades of gray. How would you treat cases like this? ... See all content Hide content

I think a congressman should make a bill. It should be called “The Freedom to Know” Act.

It would give all women the freedom to know what they are aborting. An ultrasound should be done on every women when she goes into a clinic to get an abortion. She would receive five pictures of the ultrasound and a CD of the ultrasound. She would also receive a development chart so she know how far along she is and what has developed in the embryo/fetus. The doctor would then explain to her the exact way the abortion is done. He would tell her how he does the abortion and what happens to the embryo/fetus. She would then sign a form saying that she received these pictures, CD, embryotic development, and the exact abortion procedure to be perfomred at that stage of pregnancy.

After a waiting period of 3 days, she may then return back to the clinic with the pictures and CD. Sign a form saying that she will go ahead with the abortion and that she knows the development of the embryo/fetus and she also knows the procedure that will be performed.

If she goes through with the abortion, the pictures and CD and form will all be in her chart in case PP was ever audited…they would have proof that they do let the women know everything.

I just think that most women that get abortions would change their mind if they could see the child growing in their body. Our body should protect our children, not be a killing field for them. I truly believe that we will advance one day and look back on this time period and be ashamed at the barbaric acts that we have done to our unborn children. I mean…what person deserves to be ripped apart? What person deserves to be cut apart? What person deserves to have their brain sucked out? These are truly horrific acts!!!

Most women do use abortion for birth control…not because of rape and incest. Look at this woman’s clinic alone…they only did abortions twice a month and they had 30-40 abortions done/day. If those were not for birth control…then that means there is a lot of rape occurring in that area alone. If most abortions are done because of rape, then with around 1 million abortions performed each year…that is a lot of rape cases!!

AB…I truly feel badly about your situation, but why couldn’t you give your child up for adoption. You would have given your baby life and also given a couple that can not have children the most wonderful gift ever! Adoption is such a wonderful option. About 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. There are over 1.2 million reported phisical abortions each year in the U.S.A meaning that more than one third of unborn children are killed. In the last 36 years well over 50 million babies have been killed in reported phisical abortions in the U.S.A. These numbers are widely accepted figures so for some one to compare the slaughter of innocent babies to the slaughter of innocent Jews would be quite reasonable.

Modern research has shown that life begins right at conception. Is that “science based” enough for you?

As to organazations like Planned Parenthood doing any good for women. Independant studies have concluded that besides killing an innocent human being, an abortion harms the mother as well. Just one abortion doubles a woman’s chances of developing breast cancer. Many women suffer from a variety of problems after an abortion such as severe depression, grief, and suicidal thoughts. Companies like Planned Parenthood are not telling women about these “side-effects” of that the abortion will kill a human person. Again...I say pro-choice does not mean forced abortion. Pro-life on the other hand does mean forced pregnancy and a forced life.

I'm sure the decision to have an abortion is not easily made by anyone and there are very large repercussions with either decision, but at the end of the day it is the womans choice and a womans decision.

@isamuelsonisamuelson - I love that you pro-choicers always jump to "us pro-lifers love to kill children" argument. You sir are an idiot. You either treasure all life or you don't. There is no in between. One of the dumbest arguments pro-life has is had the fetus come to term, the child could have grown up to cure cancer. This means that we should take a womans right to choose away on the possibility that her child might do great things. Well I am all for capital punishment, but following your argument, we shouldn't execute any inmates cause they might see the light in jail and win a nobel peace prize....OH SHIT that actually happened....and we still killed the fucker. *sigh* It's not about "judging" personal choices or anything like that. To pro-lifers, abortion is murder. Now, many do not agree with that, and I guess that's the way it is. Point it, however, that if you see a murder being committed, you would want to stop it, yes? Such is the case here: pro-lifers believe a murder is occurring and wish to intervene. Ya know, just like we wouldn't stand by and watch an innocent woman be raped; you would try to stop it. I'd say protecting human life is actually quite "Christian." Now, perhaps there are pro-lifers out there who are also racists, or swear by the death penalty, or prescribe to any number of the other generalizations you would like to make, but that is not the case for all of us, and to make sweeping accusations that anyone who believes that conception = life is just silly.

Additionally, I would like to add that I am not saying this as some "crazy fundamentalist", I am saying this as someone who has studied and worked in science for some time now. What about those of us who see the importance of killing people? All of em, babies, elderly, the stupid, the religious. Come on. There isn't enough food, trees or land to take care of everyone when the population doubles again by 2040. It's doubled since I was born.

Annie, I grew up in a small town in Texas with a school system ran by the baptist churches. Not once was sex education brought up and abstinence was taught by the school as the only viable alternative. This is the same school system that banned a number of books like To Kill a Mockingbird because it conflicted with the values of the community, AKA the church. I remember being 9 or 10 and actually protesting abortions on the side of a highway with a church and not even knowing really what I was protesting in the first place except that the church disagreed with it. More intelligence on the religious side? I don’t equate intelligence with censorship and repression. The protective blanket of a church community doesn’t prepare kids for the real world outside. I also don’t understand why hardcore Christians complain about Sex Education and Birth Control being taught in schools and then are crying bloody murder when a girl gets knocked up and doesn’t want the child. If you want less abortions, then there should be more access to birth control and the morning after pill. Planned Parenthood is one of the few places that makes it affordable outside of insurance.

The problem with the Pro Life movement today is that it is too often tied to the baggage of religion. If you tell an atheist that abortion is against God, they will tune you out automatically. Of course it is, but it is also a violation of the unborn baby’s civil rights. (that’s how you talk to a liberal) If you want to PERSUADE liberals, you can’t simply attack them and shout stupid slogans. You have to argue in a manner that prevents them from making excuses. Liberals believe that their cause is centered around society protecting the weak from all harm, including harming themselves with their own stupid actions. If you frame an unborn child as a weaker being that is being denied the right to live by a person in a position of power, you keep the argument tied to logic, science, and humanism.

I have met many Pro Abortion Republicans(far too many, sadly, including a staffer for Rep. Steve King of Iowa) and many Pro Life Democrats (not enough yet) so try to keep politics out of it.
