FYI when a Canadian accesses hulu, the video is blocked and we get a popup. But we still see the site in all of it's teasing glory. Combine that with my age, knowledge of old SNL skits, and that everyone else posted the video at the same time, and we are given this go nowhere thread as a permanent testament to your idiocy.

This isn’t about discrimination, this is basic psychology. In a group setting, people look around and do what everyone else does…in an emergency situation, often times they do nothing. In the 70s there was a loud, minutes-long murder taht took place in a city…dozens of people heard it, but no one called 911.

I don't believe "shopping while black" is really an issue (except in a few isolated racist instances). I think if a black person is dressed nicely and enters a store, there is no issue. If a person of ANY race enters an expensive store dressed in a manner that implies they can't afford the products in that store, they are likely to be hassled. Race is overblown.

I have a black friend and this is certainly true. She gets followed around in all kinds of stores. We've decided to take advantage of it, though. She dresses in hip-hop club-style clothing, and I go as a well-dressed middle-aged white man. She enters the store a few minutes earlier than I do, and then I shoplift while they observe her.

That was an experiment gauging how likely the average person is to get involved in other people's problems. It could have been a fight, a rape, a shoplifter, anything -- racially motivated or not. I've lived in NY for most of my life and have been shopping in Soho for years. The people in the stores have always been nice and SOHO has always been a popular spot for people of all races. I'm black and I never have been subjected to anything like that. I see more black people shopping in some of those stores than white people.
Macys and Bloomingdales is a whole other story though.

I once applied for a student job in a shop. When they heard my accent, they asked my nationality, then threw away my cv in front of me.
The sad thing is, that my accent is from 45 minutes drive from the shop in question — just goes to show how ridiculous prejudice is, especially since the retail chain has now been bought by a foreign company.

I work at a store and I keep my eyes on the little middle school kids who come in all the time with their backpacks to "shop" and walk through the store for 30 minutes and walk out with a candy bar and a soda. I find open boxes all the time after they leave.

I'm very happy that some of the people were willing to stick up for the actress, but what really gives me hope for America is the young woman who cried in response.
She was so shocked, so disbelieving, that she didn't know what to do, so she just broke down in tears. She REALLY sees everyone as equals, and I hope the rest of our country follows in her footsteps.

I've done that! Me and a friend went to a reggae club in Fort Worth in the black part of town. When we walked in, it was like a scene from a movie. I could have sworn I heard a record scratch and the music stop playing. ALL of them just stared at us like we weren't welcome. We walked out.

This might be a reading comprehension issue. It was my friend from the south who used the term "redneck" upon being denied access to the club. If you believe that her use of the term negates the injustice done here, then Godspeed.

Recently in Boston I was going into a "club" which was totally empty. We were the only 3 people when we got inside. I was wearing a black t-shirt with a picture of a pez dispenser on it. On our way in a black guy was told he couldn't go in because he was wearing Timberlands.

Classic. Complaining about racism while calling people "rednecks" because you disagree with their dress code.
And I see way more white people with dreadlocks than I do black people. I think black people realized how damn stupid they looked back in the 70s.
