  1. What’s with the name?

The name comes from “UBER”, which is the German word for “more”, “extra”, “super”, “very”. And “VU” is just a misspelled version of “view”. The name refers to having an augmented overview of all your comment and conversations. Your uber-view of the Web you created.

  2. Is this project even possible? It sounds very complicated…

It’s possible. We’re not saying it’s easy to do, or that it isn’t complicated. It requires a lot of work and it poses some really hard design and programming challenges. But we’re doing it anyway.

All you need to know is that YES, you’ll be using this in the near future, and NO, it won’t be complicated for you. uberVU is here to make your life easier and we’re not sacrificing that for anything.

  3. How much will it cost?

It will be FREE. For you to use, at least.

Which can’t be said about us creating it. It will cost us a lot and hopefully we’ll be shipping this out the door before our resources run out. But please don’t worry about that, we’re having enough trouble sleeping at night ourselves because of this.

  4. Is there a catch? What is your revenue model?

No catch, we’re for real. We have not completely and irrevocably decided about the business model. But you’ll never have to worry about us offering you uberVU for free and then charging for what was once free.

  5. How secure is it? Should I be concerned about my privacy?

Breaches of privacy and security really make us angry. We hate it when people that we trust with our own data can’t protect it properly. We promise you we won’t let that happen to you, because we know how that feels.

  6. Isn’t this a big spamming service?

We don’t think so. It’s true that you can post something to multiple channels at once, but only if you have an account there. And sometimes you’ll have to deal with CAPTCHAs and other spam protection, even from inside uberVU. So we believe you can’t really use it to spam people.

  7. How did you get this idea? Is this original?

We’ve been in the CMS business for over 3 years now. We use a custom-made CMS for our site, Flickr, Picasa and YouTube for pictures and video, and Wordpress for 3 blogs that we update. We play with content virtually every day. So it kind of made sense at one point that tool to unite it all would greatly improve our productivity, and more importantly, our experience on the Web. We got excited about it and jumped in.

We don’t know if it’s original. We searched for similar stuff, because it would have been easier to just use something already made than to start this project from scratch. But we couldn’t find anything that suited our needs or our standards. And we decided we had to build uberVU ourselves.

  8. That’s very nice! But what can I use it for?

There’s lots of cool stuff you can do with it. In short, it can be your new headquarters for content all over the web. That means not just Blogs and Photos, but structured content such as Classifieds, Job Listings, Press Releases and tons more. You’ll get a better idea if you read this.

  9. Is there a Demo? What will be in the Demo?

You caught us red-handed. There will be a Demo, or Alpha Version, as some want to call it. As a matter of fact, we’re working hard at it as you’re reading this.

Here’s what you’ll be doing with the Beta Version:

    • Import your content from: Wordpress, Blogger, Flickr, Picasa, Youtube
    • Create content using our kick-ass drag and drop editor.
    • Post content to any one of the platforms above
    • Follow reactions to your content on those platforms and post reactions for yourself (where it’s possible).

Join the Beta Club and we’ll let you in as soon as we’re ready.
