Easily one of my favourite authors writing. His brief return to comics, “Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?”, was one of the most beautiful comics I have seen in a long time; a tip for fellow readers: if you don’t want to track down individual issues, the story has been collected as a hardcover and will be released as a trade paperback next summer.

While I love all the different types of material Gaiman produces, I’m most impressed by the his works (nominally) for children, such as Coraline and The Graveyard Book. Gaiman deserves his acclaim because of his attitude towards readers young and old - he respects kids very deeply, and doesn’t sell their abilities short. His children’s books are imaginative, complex, and possessed of the belief that kids don’t need to be talked down to. Largely because of this, I found The Graveyard Book to be a marvel.
