How totally unlike zealots to find a justification for hiding behind women and children.

Many of the Google applications are open source, such as Calendar. What’s not very open is the development model. While there is a GIT repository for these applications, it appears to consist of snapshots of some internal repository, which only becomes available when Google announces a new release. A more typical open source project would have all of the intermediate changes available immediately
. The bug reporting system also doesn’t seem to cause the bugs to be fixed quickly, and its not clear if submitting a bug fix would cause it to be incorporated in the next release.

Dr A Burns (23:34:23) :
Have a look at Briffa 1998
http://eas8001.eas.gatech.edu/papers/Briffa_et_al_PTRS_98.pdf
Fig 6 shows a strong decline from 1940 to 1970. ” … As yet, the cause (of the apparent decline) is not understood”. They don’t consider the reason for what they consider the apparent falling temperatures, is actually falling temperatures !

I’m sure you’ve heard about the latest CSIRO and BOM relesse “It is very likely that human activities have caused most of the global warming observed since 1950
Reading these two posts next to each other you have to conclude that the Climate Scientists have some twisted logic working through their theories. How can you say on the one hand recent cooling 1940-1970 is unexplainable by them and just leave it unexplained but this somehow morphs into a similar warming MUST be caused by Humans as they cannot find any other cause.
Surely if the current warming is human made then any unexplainable cooling was also human made.

The one who plans to visit bankruptcy court. At LTE rates, unlimited data can’t be priced low enough to have mass appeal.

The CRU data is not raw, hence this comment from the Met office who released the datset recently.
The Met. Office confirms that it no longer has the raw data (which it calls ‘underlying data’). It says on its website,
“The database consists of the “value added” product that has been quality controlled and adjusted to account for identified non-climatic influences
. It is the station subset of this value-added product that we have released. Adjustments were only applied to a subset of the stations so in many cases the data provided are the underlying data minus any obviously erroneous values removed by quality control. The Met Office do not hold information as to adjustments that were applied and so cannot advise as to which stations are underlying data only and which contain adjustments.”

Mark,
the data you are using is not raw but adjusted and adjusted in odd ways, forget about destroying to human race to preserve the planet.
To quote Roy Spencer
A plot of the difference between the two datasets is shown next, which reveals some abrupt transitions. Most noteworthy is what appears to be a rather rapid spurious warming in the Jones dataset between 1988 and
1996, with an abrupt “reset” downward in 1997 and then another spurious warming trend after that.

We are still coming out of the ‘Little Ice Age’ so periods of warming are to be expected, to cause alarm we would need to see a rate of increase in the last 30 years greater than pre 45 when CO2 levels were lower. The rate of increase for the last 30 years is not greater than the 20’s 30’s rate of increase, so the cause cannot be seen as being related to CO2.
In
the UK the same raw data shows only warming from Urban Heating since 1880.
Note that the MET office has not released any raw data as yet, whatthey have released has ‘Corrections’ added, supposidly for Urban Heating but are actually the opposite.

There are good reasons for being data frugal other than relieving the strain on the carrier. The biggest one is that data usage turns on the radio, and that is one of the largest power consumers in the phone. A year or two ago, a Scandinavian university, funded by Nokia, monitored battery usage, and found that using the CPU to compress/decompress data used less power than keeping the radio turned on
for the longer time to transmit uncompressed data. While the experiment was using EDGE, and faster 3G or 4G protocols would also reduce the time the radio was on, they also require more sophisticated electronics to process the signal. It’s probably worth rerunning the experiment with more modern devices, but I don’t expect huge differences in results.

In a lot of cases icons are a distraction especially when, as is the case far to often, they are overused. The way used here is excellent, not in the way or distracting yet a quick reassurance that you’re clicking the right link…
