The Insect critics on this thread could also view it this way:
Bush made it possible for the ascendency of Obama, who is now after only one year a lame duck that has lead the exposure of the ugly, destructive face of Leftism for all to see.
Buh Bye, uh ahh umm, Obama!
You are neutralized thanks to Bush's long-view of the long war.

I would put Cano and Chamberlain/Hughes and maybe one more mid level prospect in a deal for Halladay and then sign Figgins or Derosa for a couple years to play 2nd and then patch up 2nd base later on. I feel like the Jays would like a Cano/Hill middle of the infield.
With Posada getting older I REALLY hope Montero wouldn’t be included in any trade. He sounds like a real nice heir to
Posada.

Would you ostracize homosexuals that voted in favor of California's Prop. 8 as "sexual-preference traitors'?
Or something…
You don't believe that ALL gays vote against traditional marriage laws, do you?

>"I've never met a gay person that was against gay marriage. Never."<
Echoing Pauline Kael? In any case, they do exist… icky as that might be to you.
Respectfully, I must disagree with your assertion that folks against homosexual marriage are a lumpen mass of homophobes bent on discrimination.
Perhaps you've overlooked the simple fact that
hetero-marriage and homo- "marriage" are not the same, and cannot [bio]logically be the same.
We are where we are, in reality. So, what process do you suggest the American people use to change (or not) the current legal definition of marriage?
You can project shame upon those with whom you disagree on this issue, but that isn't and hasn't been a persuasive tact.
You can do better…

From Baldwin's Newdow link, Rhenquist states:
I do not believe the phrase “under God” in the Pledge converts its recital into a “religious exercise”… Instead, it is a declaration of belief in allegiance and loyalty to the United States flag and the Republic that it represents. The phrase “under God” is in no sense a prayer, nor an endorsement
of any religion, but a simple recognition of the fact noted in H. R. Rep. No. 1693, at 2: “From the time of our earliest history our peoples and our institutions have reflected the traditional concept that our Nation was founded on a fundamental belief in God.”
Reciting the Pledge, or listening to others recite it, is a patriotic exercise, not a religious one; participants promise fidelity to our flag and our Nation, not to any particular God, faith, or church.
… the mere fact that he disagrees with this part of the Pledge does not give him a veto power over the decision of the public schools that willing participants should pledge allegiance to the flag in the manner prescribed by Congress. There may be others who disagree, not with the phrase “under God,” but with the phrase “with liberty and justice for all.”
But surely that would not give such objectors the right to veto the holding of such a ceremony by those willing to participate. Only if it can be said that the phrase “under God” somehow tends to the establishment of a religion in violation of the First Amendment can respondent’s claim succeed, where one based on objections to “with liberty and justice for all” fails.
The recital, in a patriotic ceremony pledging allegiance to the flag and to the Nation, of the descriptive phrase “under God” cannot possibly lead to the establishment of a religion, or anything like it.

A Gay Man's Case Against Gay Marriage:

Once again:
By what democratic process do you suggest the legal definition of marriage be changed (that hasn't already been tried)?

Sherrie Westin self-praises: "There's a method to our madness. The reason you have an Oscar the Grouch is because it's a way to teach children that they can still be friends with people who have very different world views than them."
But,
'Spill O'Reilly' spews: "We can't stand anybody! You all drive us crazy! So, what I've got to
say to everyone from every political persuasion in the nation is this: Scram! Get outta here!"
One of the demands of Political Correctness on these two government-funded apologists apparently includes dstructive Leftist Moral Relativism.

Why do you want to give away the advantage that Jeter and Posada give you? That’s what you are recommending. You’re saying that because they are so good the Yankees can afford to give away outs in LF. Why would any smart team do that? You maximize your edge by having an above average player at every position. Especially when you have a $200m payroll.
—-
Yes
Rich, that is exactly what i’m saying. Only they aren’t giving away any advantage because they are so freaking much better at every position then mostly everyone else that the trade off is nominal. Sticking Melky in left does not neutralize out infield. You could stick the rotting corpse of Generalisimo Francisco Franco out in left field and it still wouldn’t neutralize the ridiculous infield the Yankees have amassed.
You make is sound like Melky is garbage. He’s not. It’s not giving away outs just because he’s not Matt Holliday (I’m sure A’s fans will tell you all about how great HE was against AL pitching). He’s better then a lot of people a lot of other teams are sticking out there and hes in the FREAKING 9 hole and it prevents the yanks from having to waste another mega contract on another star who will be giving away outs in a few years but we’re stuck with them.
Once again, 1998 was just fine with Chad Curtis, 2010 can be just fine with Melky Cabrera

If this is a private school, and the kids didn't spend any public time/dollars during theit rehearsal/performance, I see nothing illegal. Pathetic and disgusting, yes.
But, that is the parents responsibility, and they are free to allow their kids to participate in such idiocy in America on their own dime.
Obama should publicly discourage such hymnal praises of himself, unless he actually likes himself being canonized by Orch-Dork children in such a way. In which event, he should understand that it makes him look foolish and uncool.
A jump the shark moment?
I think so. ... See all content Hide content
