Thanks for this great post on business planning, I’m sure lots of people will find it a help. Far too often I find businesses, of all sizes, missing out on some of the basics such as risk – maybe it’s because many people have such a positive attitude but nothing’s perfect, as we know.

I couldn’t agree more with your points on keeping the processes simple. For those who are used to working in large corporates, be they public or private sector the idea that a process can be a few straight forward bullet points on a single page is either a revelation or confusing – I know which camp I’m in.

If only all organisations, big as well as small would realise that a process has to fully understood to be followed most places would function better.

This is great advice, thank-you. I never fail to be amazed by the number of companies, large and small, who fail to take even basic preventative measures. As we know, not everything is under our own control and having to recover after an accident or emergency costs time, effort and loses revenue.

These viral videos are great and they hit the 3 essential components you mention really well. My personal favourite is a couple of years old but I think is still one of the best. It’s for the (then) new Triumph Rocket 3 motorbike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKEuzxC4eGc Again, it hits all your 3 points really well. The other aspect I think that makes us like then and tell everyone we know about them is that they look so amateurish yet the best ones will have cost a packet to produce!
