> if you actually turn it into a business and therefore have something to lose
But am I not correct that, as selling as an individual, I have all my personal assets to lose?
> people get way too worried about what ifs and waste money on lawyers.
I'll admit that I spent far too much time worrying and far too little time doing. :-) I'm actually really surprised by the
amount of obviously infringing material on the android market (e.g. soundboards of Nintendo sound effect, sliding puzzles of scenes from Avatar). I'm very careful and all the assets in my game are either mine or licensed.

They'd never get anything done if they had to have a vote or something similar whenever people disagree with a change. At least you can easily change it back on your installation, which wouldn't be the same on other OSs. I think it's a stupid change to make too, but are they suppose to put everything up for a vote?

> Fragmentation is a huge problem with Android. Right now, the Droid is the #2 phone in the Android universe, so I don’t run into issues. But as my phone ages, I expect to be left out of more and more features.
I'm really bored with people mindlessly repeating this. Web, PC, Mac, Linux etc. programmers all have to deal with supporting different machines with different capabilities. It's
not that hard. Any app developer worth their salt is going to make sure their app works on the majority of devices and new phone developers aren't going to release weird phones that can't use most of the apps on the market (who would buy that phone knowing that?).

Some things need a 'HUD'. They work pretty well for cars. Some designers have this obsession that HUDs are bad somehow. For war games, HUDs are really just an abstraction of the information you would e.g. get from reports and conversions from other people on command. I don't particularly want HUDs replaced with having to read paper reports and chat to people.

Pretty sure you can use a file manager like Astro and just tell it to open hidden files.

Came here to say something similar. Additionally, stem cell research is a long way from giving the miracle cures implied by random newspaper articles.
I once went to a big sponsored walk at my workplace where one of the managers was getting everyone to raise money for his dying wife to be sent to China to get her a so-called miracle cure treatment involving stem cells. I couldn't do anything
but join in, but I knew from talking to some doctor friends that the treatment was bogus. They were convinced it would work though. Pretty heartbreaking.

Cool, thanks for the info!
> The main review sites are extremely picky about who they review. I'm not a graphic designer, so my graphics weren't the best. Due to this, sites like toucharcade never touched my games.
I had a look at the two games you mentioned. I would have thought they easily looked polished enough. SpeedR looked very polished; good job! SpeedR reminded of Spy Hunter
(old 8-bit game). I don't have an iphone, but I've sent an email to a couple of friends about your games.
> Probably 2-3 weeks after I launched vipValet, another game with the same exact concept but with better graphics was launched by a game studio. It annihilated me in sales.
Wow, that must have been annoying. I keep polishing the apps I've got in development instead of releasing them. I'm actually a little worried about something similar happening so I feel it's got to be awesome when it comes out to have the best chance.
> If I would've marketed more, though, I'm sure I could've picked up some extra sales.
Have you got any marketing ideas then? :-) You should maybe hit some of the indie gaming websites sometime as they have lots of love for independent developers.
I get the impression the Android market will be much more forgiving at the moment. The top games there are mostly quite lame. You'll be surprised how basic/bad the graphics are for some of the top games for instance. I'm doing the art myself, so I'm just sticking to the neo-retro look and stylised stuff (e.g. line paper with pen drawings).

> I didn't do any marketing at all actually. I don't really know the first thing about it.
All I was planning on doing was sending review copies to people, setting up a promotional webpage with trailers/screenshots and mentioning it on a few forums. Obviously, I don't want to spam people though. Short of paying for web ads, I'm not really sure what else I'd do. :-\

OK, thanks for the advice. I'll probably go this route by the looks of things.
