@Shane
You sound like me, I say quite often what we sell is the experience and service is just a part of that. Don’t sell me dinner, served by a waiter…Give me the experience of a worry free dinner, in a comfortable atmosphere, where I can enjoy myself and not think about a thing for a couple hours. Big difference.

I think you may be onto something…The wife tells me that in times when I’ve provided her with less than stellar customer service it was because of my severe inability to effectively communicate. =)

Thanks for the feedback everybody. I think I side with the general consenus here that this is more annoying than good business. I’ll still use the company, all things considered they have a good product and service, but if they could just tighten this up a bit they could go from good to great.

I’m still in the data gathering stage myself, as I think an online collaboration tool could help me in my business. I home base in Portland, Oregon but run most of our business out of Florida. There are a few times a year when we are VERY busy in Florida and I am working with numerous people almost full time over the phone, emails, and in person (which means me making trips from
Portland to Florida). I’m thinking if I could get these groups together online it would be more effecient for everyone, and I’d save some money on travel. OfficeMedium looks like they fit the bill for what I’d be looking for. I don’t need a lot of bells and whistles, just a way to collaborate that is simple and easily accessable. The way my business runs I most likely won’t be trying anyone out until the fall, by the end of March I am pretty much done with the season and don’t do a lot of business over the summer that would require an online collaboration tool.
Just my two cents,
Matt

I’m on the fence about BidModo…seems like an interesting tool, but more of a brokering of services than a social network. Admitedly I didn’t spend much time with it, but is there a social component?
Thanks,
Matt

@Michael
You make a great point…we are inundated with information to the point of overload (social networks included), and this excess of information can result in “analysis paralysis” – you get so caught up trying to figure out which one is the best, or what you should be doing, that you end up doing nothing.
Pesonally I would not recomend more than 2-3 social
networks for anybody. I’m thinking a “big box” network like Twitter, or Facebook, a “professional networking catch all” like LinkedIn, and then a smaller focused niche network like the ones above.
I blog, Twitter, and use Facebook as a promo/connection tool for my business. That’s it – I couldn’t possibly add another.
Glad you liked the resource, appreciate you coming by!

That’s a great quote. There’s a lot to be said for the sins, or vices, things we know we shouldn’t be doing but for some reason keep coming back for more.

You hit on something very simple, yet so critical to providing great service – understanding the customer. Many times that’s all the customer wants, just to be understood.
